Thoughts for a Cloudy Day

Cloudy days are the worst.

I spend far too much time trying to determine why the clouds showed up.

Or driving myself crazy trying to figure out how to get them to go away.

And sometimes even despairing that I'll never see the sun again.

Rather than spend all my energy chasing the clouds away...

which really - do I even have the power to do that?

... today I choose to recognize that the sun is still there behind the clouds.

I may not be able to see or feel the sun.

But, I can bask in simple knowledge.

The sun is there.

I will see it again.

Oh, is that all?

I tend to over think things.

I also tend to be a bit dramatic.

(cue dramatic music)

Yesterday, I was feeling low.

I started asking myself all the deep questions.

"What am I missing in my life?"

"What have I done wrong?"

"Why am I feeling this way?"

As I pondered and mused and struggled, the answer finally came.

I am tired.

(end dramatic music; cue light bulb sound)

Oh, is that all?

I guess I have been going to bed late.

Well, that's easy.

I can deal with that.

Like I said, I tend to be dramatic and over think things.

The Hunted

(or please don't let me get the barfing sickness)

I sit and wait.

I know that it is coming for me.

I have watched as the others have gone down.

It started Saturday night.

Then spread to some of the stronger ones Monday.

And took the weakest that night.

But, by Tuesday, I thought that the danger had passed.

But, last night it struck again.

I have tried to hide.

But I have to help the others.

I can't just leave them alone.

Two more are done for today.

I am the sole survivor.

And so I wait.

Life is a Battlefield

Slowly she creeps across the bleak landscape. Wary and unsure of her next step. Visions of her partner's battle wound press into her mind. The scar will always be there as a reminder. Some have no problem navigating through the area. And yet, for her, each step is a painful reminder of what once was. There are those who would gladly do the job for the right compensation. But with no resources it is up to her, and her alone. If only. No, those thoughts must not be allowed to take over. She must live in the present and deal with what is before her. Questions will only lead to distractions. Distractions lead to neglect. Neglect leads to, well, to this. Eventually all of this must stop. Bravely she stoops down. Carefully, carefully. She reaches for the nearest object, avoiding the urge to look around too much. Then slowly she stands again. One down, who knows how many more to go.

Anyone feel like cleaning up my living room for me?

The Enemy

It is the enemy of all.

Especially mothers.

It moves too fast and I don't have enough of it.

And yet, I can't wait. To move to the next stage.

I need more.

There's too much until . . .

I feel like I'm serving it.

It changes everything.

Summer Vacation Begins

Like vultures they hover,
circling,
ready to eat.
The sound begins to increase as I scurry to get the food ready.
Then down they descend quickly,
noisily,
and devour as fast as possible;
until the noise is unbearable.

Then without warning it is over.
They fly away and it is quiet once again.
I'm left to clean up and
wait . . .
wait . . .
until the hovering
and circling
begins again.
